FAQs: EXCITE & ELEVATE

  • Absolutely! Your child needs your help to develop time management skills, critical thinking and the ability to organise tasks. Your investment in your child’s musical journey at Thrive will succeed in the long-term when you are actively coaching your child, as well as learning and growing with them. It’s also a terrific way to model the value of lifelong learning for your child.

  • Our EXCITE 1: Inspiration class is geared towards absolute beginners aged 5 - 7yrs. As a parent coach, you definitely do not need prior experience and will be learning along with your child.

The vast majority of our piano parents have no formal musical training and find it perfectly manageable. You may even find yourself loving your new piano-playing skills and living out a long-held dream!

  • Families who’ve experienced the magic of EXCITE tell us how their child always loves coming to class and being with their musical friends. They’re excited about the games, the brain-based movement activities, the art, the development of social and emotional skills and the musical creativity, of course.

Thrive parents also tell us that their relationship with their child deepens because they’re better able to understand and respect each other.

The hardest part in the first year is getting a home practise routine established. We aim for approximately 20 - 30 minutes, 5 days per week by the end of the year.

We support you with a wealth of resources, workshops and coaching calls to help you develop your own coaching skills.

With a LUMINA Character Project focused on cultivating a growth mindset, you’ll see your child’s self-confidence grow as they learn about the rewards that come with hard work, perseverance and learning to solve interesting challenges.

  • You will need a piano to practise on at home a minimum of 5 days/wk. Click here for our piano-buying guide.

  • You will need an acoustic or digital piano (88 keys). Click here for our piano-buying guide.

  • A minimum of 5 days/wk is required for your child to feels the satisfaction and excitement of making progress.

Your first year will be the hardest because you and your child will be building up a regular home practising routine. For many young children, this is the first time they’re involved in an activity that requires practising at home between weekly lessons.

To ensure that you’re well-supported, you’ll receive a coaching handbook, Empowered Parenting Workshops and Connection Calls. Once you get past the hurdles of the first year, you’ll find subsequent years much easier. You’ll know all the hard work is worth it when you see your child beaming with pride at all the things they’re able to do by the end of their first year.

  • Each class is limited to 8 parent-child pairs.

  • Enrolment is for the full schoolyear (Sept - Jun). Children learn best when there is stability and consistency. Each class is its own class family which gives each child the sense of safety they need to truly blossom into confident lifelong learners.

Learning to play a musical instrument takes commitment and a willingness to work through the inevitable challenges. Committing to the full schoolyear allows you and your child to build the routine, resilience and confidence in yourselves to see the results of your combined effort.

  • We believe that all learning is social. Learning in a small group environment is dynamic, engaging and highly interactive.

You and your child will be inspired and motivated by the efforts of others on this shared journey with you. Instead of the traditional 1 teacher-1 student model, you’ll be exposed to a multiplicity of ideas which provides a rich and diverse learning environment.

We believe that the advantages of collaborative learning far outweigh traditional one-on-one lessons. This is why Thrive has chosen to specialise in Collaborative Learning.

  • We firmly believe that a well-designed Collaborative Learning environment gets the best results from our students. This is why every class is filled with laughter, joy and highly-engaged learners. Our families love it and we’re confident that you and your child will as well.

  • If you or your child are exhibiting any cold, flu or covid-like symptoms (e.g. cough, fever, runny nose, sore throat, etc.), we ask that you stay home.

You are welcome to join. your class via Zoom if you are unable to come in-person. Your class is also recorded so you can catch up later if preferred.

For more details on how we ensure your family’s health and safety, please read our Health and Safety Policy.

  • LUMINA is our leadership development curriculum that is integrated into all of our programmes.

At Thrive, we believe that music is a powerful vehicle to build critical social and emotional leadership skills like resilience, critical thinking, empathy and collaboration.

Each year, your child will have the opportunity to work on a specific LUMINA project that will build your child’s confidence to shine their unique light more brightly into the world.

  • Music is best when it is shared, so we encourage and celebrate our students in developing their unique musical voice.

Your child will have many opportunities to share their music in-class as well as during our eagerly-anticipated Winter and Spring Kaleidoscopes. There are also LUMINA Visits where your child will be able to play for different classes at Thrive throughout the year.

  • Tuition includes weekly classes, a Thrive Welcome Lightbox with special treats (new students), enrolment in our LUMINA leadership development programme, LUMINA Leadership Kits for you and your child, student participation in concerts, bonus performing opportunities, access to our Empowered Parenting Workshops, invitation to our Spring Lightfest and additional members-only benefits.

Enrolment is for the full schoolyear.

Books and digital student resources will need to be purchased separately: approx. $120 - $150/yr.

  • We believe that when your child is allowed to improvise at the piano, their imagination and creativity take flight and their individuality shines through. The result is joyful, wholehearted music-making.

Improvising first is also a more natural way to learn because learning music is much like learning a language. We learn first through hearing, then copying, then improvising and finally reading and writing.

  • There are no make-up lessons or refunds for missed lessons except in cases where the lesson has been cancelled by Thrive Music Studio in which case they will be rescheduled. Lesson assignments may be accessed through your class account in our learning management system.

You may join your class virtually via Zoom or you can catch up with the recording later. All lessons are recorded.

  • There is a total of 11 levels in our collaborative piano programme. Each level lasts a full schoolyear.

Our intake level is EXCITE Inspiration which is intended for beginners, ages 5 - 7.

Enrolment is for the schoolyear (Sept - Jun).
