Buying a Piano

This is an exciting time as you and your child prepare to embark on your EXCITE 1: Inspiration journey. So that you get off to a good start, you will need a reliable piano. Below are guidelines for what to look for:

GENERAL SPECS

  • Acoustic piano (traditional piano) OR

  • Digital piano / keyboard

    • 88-keys, piano weighted (e.g. Yamaha P115B)

    • Cabinet to hold the keyboard securely in place (e.g. Yamaha L85)

    • Sustain foot pedal - ideally one that is built into the cabinet holding the keyboard for stability

  • Adjustable bench

APPROXIMATE COST

  • Less than $1000 for a used keyboard with required accessories. New and acoustic pianos will cost more.

WHERE TO BUY

IF BUYING A USED ACOUSTIC

  • Be sure to get a certified piano technician to check the instrument before purchasing to ensure all the moving parts are in working order.
